Miriam F. Rawlings went to be with her Lord on November 28, 2005, at the age of 96 years. She was born September 14, 1909 to Lemuel and Ouida Pratt, early pioneers of the Mesilla Valley. She moved to Dallas, Texas with her family at 4 years old and lived there until 1939. She and her late husband, Eli Louis Rawlings married in 1932 and moved to Las Cruces in 1939; where she was a devoted Mother and Wife for 66 years. She was active during many of those years at St. Paul's United Methodist Church and in various clubs and organizations. After retirement in 1973, she and Eli enjoyed traveling and were able to see many places in the world. She loved cooking and entertaining for her many friends and family members and enjoyed nothing better than having a party, luncheon, or a picnic. She is survived by her son, Burt L. Rawlings of Las Cruces and his long-time friend, Mary Morris, of El Paso, TX; and daughter, Cecelia A. Thorner and husband, Jeff Thorner, of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Stephen Rawlings, Bill Rawlings, Don Rawlings, Kristen Gruenke, Shelby Thorner, Ashley Thorner Moe, and Sydney Thorner Claude; and 7 great grandchildren; plus many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel and Ouida Pratt, her husband, Eli Louis Rawlings, her 2 sisters, Cecelia Tolliver, Ouida De Busk and her brother Lemuel Pratt, Jr. The family wishes to thank University Terrace Good Samaritan and her devoted caregivers over the past several years, Martha Moreno, Alejandra Sadler, Bea Howell, and Ramona Fonseca. They were wonderful loving and compassionate friends and help to her, in her last years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Amber Care-Hospice, St. Paul's United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Getz Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gorton Smith officiating. PDF Printable Version
