Nancy Davis of Las Cruces passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. A memorial service celebrating Nancy's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico with the reverend Norm Story officiating. Nancy was born on December 25, 1933 to John and Ruth Bier in Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1951. Nancy attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania graduating with a Home Economics degree in 1955. While living in Las Cruces, Nancy taught home economics in the Anthony school system. While in college, Nancy met John Davis and they were married in 1956. Nancy dedicated her life to being a committed Air Force wife and incredible mother to her three children. She unselfishly put her children first and always looked out for their best interest before hers. After 45 years of marriage, Nancy and her family mourned John when he passed away in 2001. Nancy and John loved to travel and they saw the world during their deployments with the U.S. Air Force. They made many life-long friends while stationed in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, Germany, Mississippi, Texas and Arizona. After their retirement in Las Cruces, they continued to travel taking numerous cruises and trips with friends around the country. Nancy loved to play bridge and travel with her YaYa sisters. She was an accomplished cook and her family will miss her wonderful holiday meals. Nancy loved to sing, sew and work in her garden. She loved her sisters in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Las Cruces where she was a long-time member and volunteered her time. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Bier. Nancy is survived by her sister, Carla Conrad of Meadville, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her son, Mike Davis, his wife Pat of Midland, Texas and their children Nikki of Houston, Texas and Grant of Midland, Texas; her son Matt Davis, his wife Stacie and their children, Jensen and Tanner of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and her daughter Margo Davis and her sons Brian and Sean of Houston, Texas. The family sends sincere appreciation to the staff at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Southern New Mexico in Las Cruces, the Mesilla Valley/La Posada Hospice in Las Cruces, The Village at Northrise, Drs. Pavia and Ahmed of Las Cruces, and M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. The family cannot thank Nancy's Las Cruces friends and church family enough for the outpouring of love and support they have shown her over the past three months. Nancy will be remembered as an intelligent woman who loved God, her children, grandchildren and friends with all her heart. Her wish is for all of us to stay close, love each other and take the time to see each other often. Memorial contributions may be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 Montana Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88005 (mvhospice.org) or a charity of your choice. PDF Printable Version
