Naomi C. Grady died at the age of 87 on July 14,2017. She resided at The Adobe Assisted Living Center in Las Cruces, NM. She was born to Robert Cowan and Estie Shelpman on February 28, 1930 in Borger, TX. She married Albert E. Grady on March 5, 1952, in Deming, NM. They welcome three daughter into their home: Jeanette, 1952, Gail, 1954 and Karen, 1956. She was a stay-at-home mom and took to parenting with a loving heart and a lot of patience. Naomi and Al became foster parents and welcomed and loved around 100 children from infant to teenagers into their home. These children knew that they were loved respected by Naomi and Al. They took guardianship of two of their foster sons, Timmy Cockerham and David De La Rosa so that the boys could stay with them when they turned 18. Naomi and Al received the Foster Parent of the Year award in 1984. Naomi loved being a foster mother and lavished her love and patience on the children who came to live with them. She is survived by her three daughters: Jeanette Arens (Clyde) Organ, NM; Gail Fonnest (Bruce), Las Cruces, NM and Karen (Percy), Colorado. She is also survived by her brother, Hoot Cowan, Sagecrest Nursing Home, Las Cruces, NM, and her two foster sons, Timmy Cockerham, Las Cruces, NM and David De La Rosa, Las Cruces, NM. She was a grandmother to six grand children: Trisha Trenteen, Hemistead , Oregon, Kristine Mills, Las Cruces, NM, Shane Fonnest, Las Cruces, NM, Shaun Arens, Las Cruces, NM, Amanda Walls, Hemistead, Oregon and Alan Walls, Colorado. She also has 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Albert Grady, her father, Robert Cowan, her mother, Estie Shelpman, her two sisters, Faye Bell and Patsy Bailey and a great-grandson, Patrick Walls. A viewing will be held at Getz Funeral Home from 5-7 on the July 24, 2017. Internment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 with a reception to follow and The American Legion Hall on Madrid right after the interment.
