It is with great sadness that the family of Nellie Bouvet announce her passing on July 7, 2023, at her home in Garfield. Nellie was born on September 1, 1948, in Berino. When she was young her family moved from Berino to Hatch. She attended and graduated from the Hatch Valley Public schools. Nellie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Steve, and children, Melissa Sneed, Steve Jr. and Patricia Bouvet and Leslie Bouvet. Her grandchildren Tyrell Russell, Emily and Sean Harris, Tara Russell, Madison Sneed, Etaya Sneed, Alysia Schultz and Kirsten Schultz, and Jayden Bouvet. Her siblings, Joe and Mary Avalos, Tony and Anna Avalos, Sylvia Alvarado, Dora and Henry Duran, and Henry and Beatrice Avalos. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Nellie was always involved in school activities with her children and with Steve being an agricultural instructor for 32 years, she accompanied him everywhere. She was a mother figure to numerous students over the years. Her and Steve were also Godparents to 68 young men and women. Nellie was very involved in the community and the San Isidro Catholic Church in Garfield and San Jose Parish in Arrey. She taught catechism and was the Director of Religious Education for decades at both parishes. She served for years on the Hatch Valley Public school board of education, as well as the Doa Ana Community College board. Nellie was an inspiration and shining light to so many. Her unwavering faith in God, determination, drive, positivity, kindness and love for her family and friends was immeasurable. She will be greatly missed by all. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents Enrique and Carmen Avalos, her sister, Estella Valdez and a grandson Jerimiah. Nellie believed strongly in education. Nellie wanted a scholarship fund established for students in agricultural education who showed pigs, as all her children showed pigs in school. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the endowed scholarship in Nellie's name. Donations can be made to the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico in honor of the Nellie Bouvet Memorial Scholarship at 2640 El Paseo Rd. Viewing will begin at 5 pm with Rosary to follow at 7 pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. Funeral mass will be on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 10 am with interment to follow at the Garfield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyrell Russell, Efren Duran, Bobby Booky, Ricky Bouvet, Tim Sneed, and Frank Garay. Honorary Pall bearers Jayden Bouvet, Branden Ibarra, Danny Apodaca, Danny Valdez Jr., Tony Avalos Jr, and Henry Duran Jr..
