Nicanor (Nick) J. Benavidez, 96, of Las Cruces, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004. He was born Sept. 10, 1908 in Rodey, NM to Bartolo and Francisca Jaramillo Benavidez. Nick was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country honorably during WW II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired chef working most his life in the Mesilla Valley. Nicanor (Nick) J. Benavidez, 96, of Las Cruces, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004. He was born Sept. 10, 1908 in Rodey, NM to Bartolo and Francisca Jaramillo Benavidez. Nick was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country honorably during WW II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired chef working most his life in the Mesilla Valley. His true calling was to the ministry in which he enjoyed ministering and helping people. Nick had a true love for the children, he will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his children and step-children, Odelia Monsivaiz and husband Manuel of Las Cruces, Pat Benavidez and wife Carmen of Santa Fe, NM, Paul Perez and wife Sylvia of La Mesa, NM, Alfredo, Carlos, Gilbert and Reynaldo Amesquita, Maria Elena Green and Alicia Rios; brother Carde
