She was born in Hoosick, New York on August 30, 1915 to Ira C. Whitehead II, MD and Freda Munson Whitehead. Nona W. Barrick, 91, long time Las Cruces resident, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on Saturday, November 25, 2006. She was born in Hoosick, New York on August 30, 1915 to Ira C. Whitehead II, MD and Freda Munson Whitehead. Nona graduated from Nursing School at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and received her Registered Nurse (RN) accreditation. She was an accomplished writer and spent many hours researching the history of the Mesilla Valley. She so enjoyed collaborating with her dear friend, Mary Taylor of Mesilla, in compiling a published work entitled, A Place As Wild As The West Ever Was
