Norman John Edwards, 88, of Las Cruces, died Monday, April 9, 2007. He was born May 25, 1918 in Newell, Iowa to John and Margaret Donaldson Edwards. Norman was a Retired Lt. Colonel from the US Air Force where he served his country honorably during WW II and the Korean Conflict. While in the service he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, WW II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was also retired after many years of faithful service as Director of Contracts from NASA at the Washington, DC Headquarters. Norman enjoyed horseshoes, but his passion was traveling the world over and eating of the different foods of each country. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all his family and many friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Mrs. Edwards of the family home; daughters Yvonna Gerberding and husband Tom of Blue Earth, MN, and Marla Black and best friend Genevieve Trujillo of Las Cruces; brothers Francis Edwards and wife Myrna of Newell, Iowa and Kenneth Edwards and wife Beatta of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren Shannon, Shelly, Janine, Tammie, Tabitha and Tommy and by 11 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 12, 2007 also at Getz Funeral Home.
