Pete V. Trujillo, a life long resident of Las Cruces passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 3, 2005, at the age of 66. Surrounded by his loving family and friends. He left this world to be with the Lord to whom he had shown great faith and devotion. During the course of his life, he touched the lives of many around him and will be remembered for his generosity, love and commitment to his family. At his request, cremation has taken place. His life was commemorated and celebrated with a Memorial Ceremony, which took place on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at Calvary Chapel of Las Cruces. Pastor Bob Ortega officiated at the service with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in a private ceremony with family. Pete was born the eldest of eight children to Cruz Trujillo and Alvina Villegas Trujillo on April 26, 1938 in Las Cruces, NM. Being the eldest child he took the responsibility of nurturing, caring and supporting the family at a very young age. This love and commitment would continue into adulthood where he took care of his own family. He graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1957 where he participated in baseball all four years including the 1957 State Championship team. He was also selected to the All-State team in 1957. He had a great love for baseball and continued to coach youth for over twenty years. Immediately following graduation Pete began working for the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier and retired after 38 years of service. While employed, Pete received many awards and achievements. His greatest being the "Pride in Excellence Award" he received in May 1975. The award consisted of him being selected as the top Carrier in the Western Region, which includes 17 states. Throughout his years as a Mail Carrier, he had many routes in Las Cruces and was greatly loved and appreciated by the residents of his routes. Pete continued to work at Kelly Accounting Services part-time until his passing. Pete was dearly loved by his family, friends and church family and will be greatly missed especially by two very dear friends of many years, Mike Mancha and Kathy Kelly.
