Petra Carreras went to eternal rest with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 while in the company of children and grandchildren. Petra lived a hard but fruitful life and cared for many children, even those that were not her own. Petra Carreras is survived by her children, Manuela Nellie Atencio, Claudina Tarin, Emilia Gomez, Ricardo Carreras, Lucy "Cianita" Chavarria and Cecilia Sanchez and Granddaughter Viola Evans that she raised as her own daughter. Petra is also survived by brothers Teodoro and Pablo Provencio and sister Juliana Sambrano. Two-step nieces who she along with her husband Hugo Carreras raised as her own children, Erlinda Pina and Helen Trujillo, also survive her. Numerous grandchildren, and six generations of decedents survive her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Hugo Carreras and grandchildren Roque Atencio Jr., Anthony Atencio, Juanita "Jenny" Angel, Domingo Gomez Jr., Ricardo "Ricky" Gomez, and Eddie Tarin. The following traits: HONESTY, LOVE OF THE HOLY TRINITY, follow the TEN COMMANDMENTS as written in the Holy Bible were passed on by Petra to all her children, and many descendents. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Joe Atencio, Joe "Pepito" Tarin, Domingo "Tito" Gomez, Richard Carreras, Benjamin Chavarria, and Pedro "Pete" Sanchez. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 pm on Monday, March 8, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home with a Spanish Rosary to follow at 7 pm with Fr. Don Adamski previously of Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish in Tortugas, NM. Petra's funeral mass to celebrate her life is at 10 am on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church also with Fr. Don Adamski officiating. Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. A meeting of fellowship will then be held at the St. Genevieve's Catholic Church Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Retirement Village or to a charity of choice. PDF Printable Version
