Phillip Ellis passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010, in Houston TX. He was born on January 16, 1948, in Manhattan, NY. He grew up in Mesilla, NM and attended Mesilla Elementary, Court Jr. High and graduated from Las Cruces High School. During his youth he was active in little league baseball and he also served as an altar boy at San Albino Catholic Church. In 1967 at the age of 18 he joined the Navy and served on the U.S. Henry Tucker during the Vietnam War. When he completed his service with the Navy in 1971 he returned to Mesilla and married his high school sweetheart, Natie Padilla. Phillip was a car salesman and moved to Houston with his wife Natie in 1976. He is survived by his wife Natie and two sons John Philip (J.P.) and Kenneth Michael of Houston, TX, his father John L. Ellis and wife Josephine M. Ellis of Las Cruces, NM, and many cousins throughout Dona Ana County. He was preceded in death by his mother Eleanor Telles Ellis and Brother John Ellis Jr. On Tuesday August 17, 2010 a mass will be held in Houston, TX. Cremation will be placed and internment will be at a later date. A memorial will be held for Phillip in Mesilla on Saturday, August 21st at twelve noon at 2070 Calle de Santiago at Basilica of San Albino, conducted by Rev. Richard Catanach, Pastor.
