Phyllis Heard Shriver of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away peacefully on November 13, 2022 surrounded by family and friends. She was 85 years old, and goes on to join her husband, Monte Shriver, in paradise.
Phyllis was born in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1937 to John William and Margaret Heard. She attended high school in Archer City, Texas and college at Midwestern College in Wichita Falls. During this time, she met her future husband, Monte, who was on leave from Tinker Air Force Base in nearby Del City, Oklahoma. They were married on July 2, 1960 in Wichita Falls.
During his long career at Mountain Bell, Monte and Phyllis resided in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico; New Jersey; Texas, and Denver, Colorado, before finally returning to Las Cruces as their permanent home. They both shared a love of travel and adventure, and spent many vacations touring the United States, Europe, and Australia.
Phyllis is survived by her brother Phillip Heard, of Monessen, Pennsylvania, three children, Paige Burke of Denver, Colorado; Pamela Van Husen and her husband, Jim and granddaughter Kelly of Gilbert, Arizona and Scott Shriver of Denver, Colorado.
Always a positive, upbeat person, Phyllis had a beautiful smile that would light up any room. Filled with love, good humor, and grace, she will be greatly missed by all.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date at the Shriver family burial plot in Aztec, New Mexico. Donations in her honor can be made to the Alzheimer's Association,
