Phyllis Jean Prince (77), beloved Mom, NiNi (grandma), Sister, and Aunt passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, after a prolonged battle with congestive heart failure at Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Linda Diane Prince; three grandchildren Amanda Leigh Romero (Erik), Thomas James Romero (Denise), Harrison James Prince Hutchinson; four and one-half great-grandchildren Ariana, Trey, Luke, Julian, and in the near future (January 2017) Liam; her beloved "Sissy" Linda K. Ziehl and brother-in-law Richard Ziehl; her nephew Rick Ziehl (Karla), niece Cheryl Ziehl Berryhill (Mike); her sisters-in-law Virginia Jo Oliver and Patsy Holley, brothers-in law Alcid, Verlin, and Morris Prince; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, life-long friends, and her treasured dog, Dodi. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Jimmy, her oldest daughter Debra Jean Prince, her parents Chalmer and Nellie Alfrey, her husband's parents Maynard and Vera Prince, numerous in-laws, and lifelong friends Robert and Marilyn Boyd, Claudie and Buddy Goins, Nancy and Bill Clements, and Lowell Foreman. Phyllis was born in Oklahoma on February 10, 1939, to Chalmer and Nellie Alfrey, but moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, and was a life-long resident since she was 3-weeks old. She married her sweetheart and love of her life James Burton Prince on September 4, 1954, and they shared their lives and their love for over 56 years. Phyllis' family and friends meant everything to her. She was very proud that she was an "Avon Lady" for over 40 years and won numerous Avon awards. She worked at New Mexico State University in the Admissions Department for over 10 years starting in 1967. She was a talented seamstress and loved to crochet and give away her "creations" to family and friends, and loved to dance and go to Elephant Butte Lake and the mountains with her "honey" Jimmy, family, and friends every chance they got. Phyllis was also active in the community and her church, Calvary Baptist Church, and an active and a long-time member of the Tau Master sorority (she loved and appreciated all the support she received from all of her past and current sorority sisters). A memorial service was held to celebrate the life of Phyllis Prince at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Getz Funeral Chapel. Cremation has taken place and burial will occur at Masonic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phyllis' name to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, NM 88005, where she was so lovingly cared for. PDF Printable Version Service Information
