Robert A. Getz, 88, of Las Cruces, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008. "Bullet" as he was fondly know by his family and many friends was born July 20, 1919 in Massillon, Ohio to Edmund and Helen Kannel Getz. Bullet was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country honorably during WWII. Bullet was also retired from W.S.M.R. after many years of faithful service. After retirement he went to assist his son and his extended family at Getz Funeral Home in any way that was needed. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #1119 where he was proud of being named the Elk of the Year and a life member of V.F.W. Post # 10124. Mr. Getz will be forever missed and loved by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his two sons Terry W. Getz and wife Lucille of Las Cruces and Rob Getz of Albuquerque, NM; sister Jean Alley of Navarre, Ohio; brother Dick Getz of Brewster, Ohio; sisters-in-law Ginny Getz of Massillon, Ohio, Dorothy (Took) Irons of Canton, Ohio and June Watts of Massillon, Ohio. Also surviving Bullet are his 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Opal Getz, daughter Connie Lopez, his parents and three brothers: Paul, Charles and Ralph Getz. A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 PM on Friday, July 4, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Bullet's life will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 5, 2008 also at Getz Funeral Home with Rev. Don Shockley officiating. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery with military honors where he will laid to rest with his wife Opal. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Steven W. Getz (Marissa Ostos), Bryan P. Getz (Riki) Chad R. Getz (Christi Fields) Amanda Lopez, Gabriel Lopez, Matthew Lopez, Jared Getz and Sean Getz. Honorary Pallbearers are his great-grandchildren Tristyn, Tanner, Rylei and Garrett Getz and Kylie Lopez. On behalf of the entire Getz and Lopez families, a special thanks to L & M Christian Home Care (especially Lupita Ewing and Silvia Gallegos) for the love and compassion shown to our father and grandfather.
