Roger Samaniego, 67, of Las Cruces passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Roger was born to Napoleon "Nappy" Barela Samaniego and Doris Marie Sketo Samaniego on December 9, 1949 in El Paso, Texas. He was a strong and loving husband, father and grandfather. Roger enlisted in the US Army on August 26, 1969. During his service to our beloved country, Roger served as a sniper and Paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He served his country honorably and bravely during the Vietnam War, receiving many awards for his meritorious service. Roger is preceded in death by his step-mother, Frances Samaniego; Mother, Doris Sketo Bishop; and father Napoleon Barela Samaniego. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Ann Samaniego of Las Cruces; sister, Martha Morrison and husband Larry, of Albuquerque son, Carlos Sanchez and wife Lisa, of Las Cruces; son, Jacob, of Las Cruces; brother Monty, of Las Cruces; grandchildren Katrina Martinez, Carlos Quentin Sanchez, Hunter Sanchez and Brinda Sanchez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and countless friends. After serving his country, Roger returned to Las Cruces and began working. He worked as a truck driver for 25 years and then went to work for G4S in El Paso as a security officer for CPB. In 2013 retired from US Customs and Border Protection. In 1985, Roger met the love of his life, Ann Kuykendall. They were happily married for 31 years, and were almost always by each others sides, even working together at times. Roger was a hardworking, excellent provider for his family and loving husband. There will be a Memorial in celebration of Roger's life on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10AM at the Las Cruces Church of Christ 2025 N. Valley Drive. Bob Coppedge will officiate the services. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life with us. He will be Interned at Santa Fe national cemetery will full military honors at a later. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice 299 Montana Ave, Las Cruces NM 88005. Service Information
