Rachel Carbajal, born on July 5, 1972 in El Paso, Texas passed away on April 28, 2024, at the age of 51 in Las Cruces, New Mexico surrounded by the love and support of her family. Rachel or “Big Momma” as she was lovingly called was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and cherished friend.

She is survived by her mother Manuela Ponce; daughter Valerie Gonzales-Archuleta and husband Israel; her sisters Mary Ramirez and husband Mike, Yvonne Gomez and husband Oswaldo, Rebecca Ponce, Carla Smith and husband Edgar; grandchildren Dayvian Gonzalez and Izzabella Archuleta. As well as a vast family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones who will forever cherish the memories they shared with her. She was preceded in death by her father Hector Carbajal, step-father Carlos Ponce, aunt Mercedes “Mercy” Barreras, son David “Daniel” Gonzales, brother David Carbajal, nephew Eddie Carbajal, grandparents Ladislao and Salome Gutierrez.

Rachel loved going shopping, decorating her spaces with flowers and candles, eating out and listening to oldies. Rachel worked as a home health caregiver for many years and touched countless lives with her compassion.

While our hearts are heavy with grief, we find solace in the hope that Rachel now rests in Jehovah’s memory, awaiting the promised resurrection when she will be reunited with her loved ones in the paradise earth that she so faithfully looked forward to.

The family would like to say thank you to the Mountain View Regional ICU and High Desert Hospice nurses, staff and doctors, especially Kimberly, Yvette and JoJo; for the care, kindness and compassion that they showed Rachel and the family during the time she spent with them.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, support and kindness that has surrounded us during this difficult time. The compassion and generosity of our family, friends and congregation have been a profound comfort.
