Rachel Medina Perea 56, Loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister died Monday May 4, 2010 surrounded by her family at her home in La Mesa, NM. She was born to Felix and Edmunda Medina in Las Cruces, NM on August 20, 1953. When Rachel was not working, she enjoyed the outdoors going four-wheeling in the desert or sitting on a bank of a river or lake fishing and social events with her friends of the Mickey Mouse Club. She loved cooking for her family, watching the smiles that would come to their face from eating her delicious meals. A Loving and Supporting mother Rachel's pride and joy were her children. She was always there for them with a shoulder to lean on or a smile to lift their spirits. She was a devoted Catholic and always said a special prayer every morning. Mrs. Perea will be deeply missed by all who knew and love her. Rachel is survived by her husband Emilio Perea of the family home, daughters, Jessica R. Holguin and Erica Ortega of Las Cruces, NM, sons, Jimmy Ray and wife Christina Perea and Jacob Perea of Las Cruces, NM, mother Edmunda Medina of La Mesa, NM, Sisters Terry Stoltenberg and husband Richard of La Mesa, Delia Rivera and Husband Mike of La Mesa, NM, Brother Tony Medina and Wife Susan Of Alamogordo, NM; grandchildren Zarida, Evangline, Noah, Rebecca and their father Sergio Ortega, Mateo, Isaiah and Talissa Perea and Alexis Silva, Nina to Amy Bustamante, Angela Stoltenberg and Melissa Lara. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM on Monday, May 10, 2010 at San Jose Catholic Church in La Mesa, NM where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM. Rachel's funeral mass to celebrate her life will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 also at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Cordero officiating. Pallbearers will be, Marty Olivas, Rosemary Fragoso, Blanca Martinez, Veva Provencio, Sonia Zapian, Betty Marquez, Becky Olivas, Ruben James Olivas. Honorary Pallbearers are, Lupe Tellez and Patsy Heredia. Rachel's family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice, Dr. Constance Wash, Memorial Medical Center and to her brother Tony for his life saving effort for donating bone marrow to his loving sister.
