Rachelle Petrowski passed on Wednesday afternoon at her home after a brief illness. Rachelle was 90 years old and had lived in Las Cruces since 1992. Born in New York City in 1920 , Rachelle was the youngest of three children raised by Jacob and Molly Aboulafia, Turkish immigrants who came to America at the turn of the last century to find a better life. With her brothers, Max and David, they were children of the Great Depression and they often spoke of the horrors of the bread lines and ration coupons. As a teenager she met and eventually married Albert Petrowski to whom she was married for more than 55 years. In 1992 they moved to Las Cruces from New York to be closer to family. Rachelle will be laid to rest on Friday at 1p.m. at the Masonic Cemetery, in accordance with the Jewish Customs. Rachelle is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Margaret Petrowsky of Las Cruces; her Grand-Daughter Jaime Petrowsky-Smith; her Great Grandson Jakob Petrowsky-Smith also of Las Cruces. The family will be receiving friends at her home from Sunday afternoon until Friday at 3pm, as per Jewish customs. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots program, P.O. Box 7214, Las Cruces, NM 88006. PDF Printable Version
