Ralph S. Barela

April 24, 1942 — August 3, 2011

Ralph S. Barela, 69, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011. Uncle Ralph as he was fondly known was born April 24, 1942 in Las Cruces to Jose and Ernestina Schumaker Barela. He was a member of the NM National Guard with many years of faithful service and a member of Our lady of Health Catholic Church where he volunteered his time as an usher and also attended every day the Month of May Rosary. Ralph enjoyed playing cards and sports but most of all baseball. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his three sisters Ernestine Martinez and husband Joe of Dona Ana, Natalia B. Vigil, Josie Barela and husband Willie all of Las Cruces. Also surviving him are many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cristobal, William and Vicente Barela and sisters Carmen Leyva and Consuelo Madrid. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 pm. His funeral mass will be at 10 am on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011 at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at a later date in the Santa Monica Columbarium at Our Lady of Health. The honor of being a pallbearer goes to members of Ralph's family. PDF Printable Version
