Ramona A. Chavez, 91, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012. "Mama Ramona" as she was fondly known was born Aug. 31, 1921 in Grand Ford, TX to Braullio and Francisca Santilla Aranda. Ramona A. Chavez, 91, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012. "Mama Ramona" as she was fondly known was born Aug. 31, 1921 in Grand Ford, TX to Braullio and Francisca Santilla Aranda. She enjoyed traveling and cooking but her passion was for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sons Cecilio Chavez and wife Socorro of Marfa, TX and Filomeno Chavez of Austin, TX; daughters Maria Olivas and Manuela Morales and husband David all of Ft. Worth, TX and Guadalupe Gallegos of Denver, CO; brothers Emerecildo Aranda of Arizona and Juan Aranda of Las Cruces; sisters Agapita Aranda and Pabla Aranda both of Ft. Worth, TX. Ramona is also survived by her grand, great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Alfonso Chavez, son Agustin, sister Natalia and brothers Isabel, Manuel and Silvestre. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer will follow at 7 pm. Her funeral mass will be at 10 am on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Dona Ana, NM with Rite of Committal to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
