Raymond (Ray) L. Davis passed away on the morning of March 19, 2015. He was born in 1929 to Levander C. Davis and Hattie Marie Jackson in Pelican, Louisiana. Ray and his family migrated to Las Cruces in 1945 for better job opportunities. In 1953 he enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War. When he returned home he married Nancy Dowell on December 18, 1954. Ray began his career with the NMSU Physical Science Laboratory when the space industry was in its infancy. He participated in many test missile firings in Utah, Kwajalein Island, Capes Kennedy and Canaveral. With his wife Nancy, and his children, he turned 10 dusty acres into a beautiful pecan orchard which he was able to farm full time upon his retirement. Ray enjoyed beekeeping, raising quail, gardening, and was able to identify by name any tree or plant native to the southern or southwest states. He loved the outdoors and spent his early years hunting and later years camping with his children and grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Davis, and son, Ray Davis, along with, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his daughters; Pam Davis (Dennis Applegate), Lori Colquitt (Juan) and Sharla Davis along with three grandchildren; Derick Davis (Parrash Sanderson), Matthew Colquitt and JennaKay Colquitt along with his dear friend Claire Gibson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Getz Funeral Home chapel, located at 1410 E. Bowman Avenue in Las Cruces, NM followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. PDF Printable Version
