Cuca was a women who loved to cook, tell stories, crochet, and most of all baby-sit her grand children and great-grandchildren. Refugia "Cuca" Barela, 91, of Las Cruces died Wednesday, November 1, 2006. She was born July 4, 1915 in Anthony, NM to Rosario and Antonia Gonzales. Cuca was a women who loved to cook, tell stories, crochet, and most of all baby-sit her grand children and great-grandchildren. Cuca is survived by to daughters Bertha Maese of Las Cruces, Martha Martinez and husband Amador of Tortugas, Two brothers Martin Gonzales and wife Martha of Atlanta, GA, Paul Gonzales of Tortugas, as well as six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Felipe Barela, and sister Adele Vielma. Pallbearers will be Cucas grandchildren; Celestia Bernal, Arthur Maese, Phillip Maese, George Herrera, Rachel Herrera, Manuel Bernudez, and Amador Martinez. A visitation will be held Monday, November 6, 2006 from 6-7 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish where a prayer vigil will follow at 7:00 PM. The funeral mass is at 10:00 AM on Tuesday November 7, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine and Parish. Rite of Committal will follow at the Tortugas Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
