Reymundo Parra Aranda, close friends and family called him ‘Mundo and Rey, was 95 years old when he passed away peacefully on the 25th of April 2023. He passed away in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was born to Roman Aranda and Isabel Parra on 18 May 1927 in Mesilla, New Mexico. Rey was in the eighth grade when he quit school to work in the fields to help provide for his family. Rey went into the Army and served as a Paratrooper in the 187th airborne infantry regiment during the Korean War. He made three combat jumps behind enemy lines during his Army career. Rey settled in Maryland after his time in the Army and started his family. He then returned home to the Mesilla Valley. He owned and operated two automotive service stations before starting working in the security force. He began a long career working at Memorial Medical Center; formally known as Memorial General Hospital, where he earned numerous commendations and commissions throughout his 20 plus years before his retirement. Rey simultaneously worked at Cavalry Baptist church over an 18 year span before he retired to enjoy life with his children and grandchildren. Rey worked hard throughout his life to provide a strong, loving home for his family. Rey loved and adored each of his children in his own way and instilled them with a strong work ethic. Rey had a charitable nature, even when others did not know, or recognize the simple actions. Rey is survived by his son, Raymond and Susan Brune of Baltimore Maryland, Roman and Jasmine Aranda of Oak Creek Colorado, Gregorio and Blair Aranda of Jonesboro Louisiana, and Sonia Aranda-Peterson of Las Cruces New Mexico. Rey left behind a beautiful family of 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, accompanied by numerous nieces and nephews. Services for Rey will be held at Getz Funeral Home with a visitation on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 beginning at 5pm. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, with a visitation from 9am-10am, service at 10:00 am and burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
