Ricarda S. Benavides, 94, of Las Cruces died at her home Saturday April 16, 2005. She was born April 21, 1910 in La Mesa, NM to Doroteo Jr. and Lorenza Saenz. She was a devote catholic who was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral Parish. Ricarda S. Benavides, 94, of Las Cruces died at her home Saturday April 16, 2005. She was born April 21, 1910 in La Mesa, NM to Doroteo Jr. and Lorenza Saenz. She was a devote catholic who was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral Parish. Ricarda was a member of the Court Santa Cruz of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and was voted Catholic Daughter of the year in 1999. She was also the Catholic Mother of the year Our Lady of Perpetual Socorro in 2000. In 1950, Ricarda helped raise money and donated her personal time to the church building fund for the first Our Lady of Health Church. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose #1202. She was a Foster mother for twenty-one children. Ricarda will be remembered by her family as a woman who gave everything she had to her church and family, and will be deeply missed by all. She is survived by one son Juan "John" Benavides and wife Modesta of Las Cruces, NM; two daughters Martha Lucero and husband Ernesto, and Nellie Rosales and husband Gonzalo Jr. both of Brazito, NM. She is also survived by two brothers David and Roberto Saenz both of Los Angels, CA; eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Alejandro A. Benavides; Grandson, Ismael "Mayo" Valenzuela; brothers, Salvador and Alfredo Saenz; sisters, Almelia S. Garcia, Alvina Roque and Erminda Saenz. The funeral mass will be held Tuesday April 19, 2005 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral at 10 AM. The rite of committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arturo "Tudy" Saenz, Micheal Valenzuela, Ricky Benavides, Angel Lujan, Ernie Lucero, and Juan Carlos Benavides. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Saenz and son Robert Jr., Ernesto and David Garcia, Ernie Jr. And Jacob Enriquez, and Denice Kilpatrick.
