Richard Odom, 21, of Las Cruces went to be with his Heavenly Father on the 6th of April 2005. Richard was born in Portales, NM on the 23rd of December 1983. At five weeks old, he was adopted by the Odom family and has lived in Las Cruces since then. He had a passion for photography and the Organ Mountains. He was hiking and taking pictures near Dripping Springs when a tragic fall ended his life. Richard was very much a "people" person. He never treated anyone as a stranger and seemed to know almost everyone in town. Richard had quite a sense of humor and could find something funny in almost every situation. Richard had a great love for God, his family and the Church. He was an active member of the University Church of Christ where he had been involved in the Youth Ministry and was currently involved with the NMSU Aggies for Christ group. He had a special love for the elderly and young kids-especially his nephew and nieces. Richard graduated from Mayfield High School in 2002 where he played on the football team. Although he was not a starter, he was very devoted to the team and to his school. Richard previously attended NMSU but was currently working and planning to re-enroll in the fall. Shortly after Richard turned 18, he was able to meet his birth family and was delighted to get to know them. Although Richard was adopted here on earth he was more importantly adopted into God's family. Richard had a very soft heart, a big smile and a cheerful personality. He touched and blessed many, many lives and he will be missed by all. He is survived by his parents, Roger and Sharon Odom of Las Cruces; three brothers, Scott and wife Jo of Clovis, Greg and wife Tami of Las Cruces, and Bruce and wife Samantha of Las Cruces; nephew and nieces, Mason, Sadie and Kaydin Odom. He was also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents J.C. and Monetta Odom and Jo Cranston. He is also survived by his birth mother, Nancy Morgan, birth father George Mungia, and birth grandparents Fred and Mary Morgan and Rey and Petra Mungia. Because he was also adopted into the family of God he was also survived by countless others who he considered family. The funeral service is set for 2:00 on Sunday the 10th of April at the University Church of Christ, 1555 E. University in Las Cruces with David Harrelson officiating. This will be preceded by a time of visitation at the church beginning at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University Church of Christ Building Fund, 1555 E. University Ave, Las Cruces, NM, 88001. PDF Printable Version
