Richard Gorham, 95, of Las Cruces, NM died September 4, 2021. Richard was born in Sioux City, Iowa on December 29, 1925 to George and Jesse Gorham. In January of 1944, during WWII, Richard was drafted into the United States Navy at 18 years of age. He was immediately sent to training in Farragut ID where he was trained as a Sailor 1st Class. After basic training he was sent to a Navy shipyard in Mare Island, CA., located in the San Francisco Bay area. Richard was honorably discharged from the United States Navy following the end of WWII in 1946. Following his military service, Richard went on to work for the Telephone Co. in El Paso, TX. He began his career as a cable splicer, helper, Lineman and then to Construction Foreman. After two years of hard work and travel Richard was promoted to Supervising Foreman of Clovis and Tucumcari, NM. in 1986, Richard was promoted to Manager of Installation and Repairs for Southern New Mexico. Richard retired after 40 years with the phone company. Richard was an avid family man. He had a passion for dirt track racing with his son, grandson and granddaughter. Richard enjoyed Elephant Butte Lake with his lovely wife, kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. His favorite place on earth was San Carlos Mexico for fishing trips and vacations. Richard is survived by his wife Oleta of the family home, his son, Richard Gorham Jr and wife Karleen Gorham., of Las Cruces, daughter Janice Gorham Bosque New Mexico and son Bobby Harding of Las Cruces. Grandson Abel Harding and wife Morgan of Las Cruces, Granddaughter Melissa Gorham of Lago Vista, Texas, Grandson Greg Gorham and wife Stephanie Gorham, Great Grand Daughter Paisley (8) and Great grandson Jaxson (6) of Las Cruces. In lieu of flowers, donations will be received by Mesilla Valley Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held at Getz Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 1:30 followed by Burial at Masonic Cemetery. Service Information
