Richard J. Yankovic, 83, of Las Cruces, NM died Monday, February 21, 2011. He was born June 15, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Alex and May Yankovic. Richard was a man with a great love of the Catholic Church and his family. He was a member of the Basilica and Parish of San Albino, served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister, as well as working with the St Genevieve's Home and School Association. He enjoyed collecting stamps and was the Past President of the Las Cruces Stamp Club. Richard also had great joy listening to his classical music. He was a very kind, loving and patient husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include one son James Yankovic of Chicago, Illinois. Three daughters, Mary C. Modrich (Thomas) of Viola, Wisconsin, Joan Piwowar of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Dolores Green (Kenneth) of Chicago, Illinois. Also surviving Richard are four grandchildren Leslie Cockerham (Damon) of San Francisco, California, Ted Modrich of St. Paul, Minnesota, Laura Modrich of Viola, Wisconsin, and Jason Piwowar of Tampa, Florida and one great-grandchild Sadie Cockerham. A Memorial Mass for Richard will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Basilica of San Albino with Father Richard Catanach officiating.
