Richard S. Martinez, 72, of Radium Springs, NM, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11,2009 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 2, 1936 in Carrizozo, NM to William and Carolina Martinez. Richard S. Martinez, 72, of Radium Springs, NM, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11,2009 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 2, 1936 in Carrizozo, NM to William and Carolina Martinez. Richard was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4038 in Las Cruces, NM and currently an active member at Aerie #4308. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and riding horses. Richards favorite pass time was team roping at the Martinez Arena, where he along with Rawley Jackson and other friends started the Cowboys for Cancer Research Team Roping competition. Richard is survived by his sons Robert and Vickie Martinez of Radium Springs, NM, Ricky Martinez, Michael Martinez and companion Gracie Pena all of Las Cruces, NM, Ronnie and Lydia Martinez of Fairacres, NM; daughters Mary Martinez and companion Joe Flores, Jodie and Aaron Sullivan all of Las Cruces, NM; brother Morris Martinez of Las Cruces, NM; sisters Maybell and Edward Whaling and Rita Martinez both of Las Cruces, NM. 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his closest and dearest friend Elaine Gabby. His parents brother Willie Martinez and sister Velia Barela preceded him. A visitation will be held from 5 to 6 PM on Thursday January 15, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home. A prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Dona Ana. His funeral mass will be at 10 AM on Friday, January 16, 2009 also...
