Richard "Windfeathers" Muniz - beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend - passed away in his home in Las Cruces, NM on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Richard is survived by his wife, Geraldine; their children, Joush, Nate, Nicole, and Ty; his five grandchildren, Hunter, Janus, AJ, Faris, and Naiella. He is also survived by his father, Sevadello, his brother, Rudy, his sister, Pamela, his stepbrothers, Phillip and Victor, and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. Richard is preceded in death by his son Jerome, his mother Stella, his brother Tony, his sisters Patricia and Norma. Richard was a veteran of the US Navy and served in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion, Posts 16 and 10 and worked with the Quilts of Honor in Fremont, CA to honor veterans. He also worked tirelessly as an advocate for victims of violent crimes. Richard was an active elder in the Native American community. He served with the KIA/NAKIA (Indian Veterans) as a ghost soldier and carried the Eagle Staff as a member of the Blackfoot Gourd Society. He was also a member of the non-profit organization, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women / Relatives. He also volunteered, for many years, as a youth counselor at different Juvenile Detention Centers. Richard enjoyed many hobbies as well. He would attend car shows, winning many awards with his restored '38 "Mr. Willy's" pickup. He also loved playing the native flute and drums. In his memory, donations can be made on the website: wayofthesacredmountain.org for the non-profit organization, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women / Relatives.
