Robert Thomas Cauthorne, known as Tom to his friends, died at age 95 on October 9, 2021, in Las Cruces, NM. He enjoyed a successful medical career, lived a full life with many interests including classical music, travel, literature and culture, and was an avid supporter of the arts. Dr. Cauthorne grew up on the Rappahannock River in Virginia and attended St. Christopher's School in Richmond as a boy. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in 1950, and served as a flight surgeon and Major in the Air Force. He went on to practice as a physician, gastroenterologist and Chief of Medicine, finally retiring in 1993 after serving many years as Chief of Staff of the VA Hospital in Albuquerque. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, October 28, at Good Samaritan Society Las Cruces Village which has been his home for the last several years. Dr. Cauthorne is survived by his son, Seth Cauthorne, and his two granddaughters, Kara and Layla Cauthorne.
