Robert Joe Wood passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014 due to the effects of lung cancer. He was born Dec 21, 1926 in Breckenridge, TX. to Lem Case Wood and Zelpha Demarice Daniels Wood. On February 4, 1946 he married Martha Loneta Hammon and they were married for 66 years until her death on their 66th anniversary in 2012. Bob and Neta had three children- Ronny Lynn Wood, currently living with his wife, Madge, in Kerrville, TX., Joe Michael Wood, who lives with his wife, Donna, in Hayden, ID and Phyllis Bobette Radtke who resides with her husband, Jeff, and their family in Las Cruces, NM. They have twelve grandchildren, whom they adored, and numerous great-grandchildren. Their family was the most important thing in their lives to them. For a number of years the family lived in Fort Worth, TX but in 1962 they moved with their three children to the San Fernando Valley in California. In 1967 they moved a short distance to Simi Valley, CA, where he and Neta lived for many years. It was there where, in 1969, he and his wife joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints which became a focus for much of their lives until their passing. As a young man Bob held many different jobs until he focused on working as a machinist and a tool and die maker and then a precision inspector. When a downturn in the aerospace industry led to massive layoffs, he became a fleet mechanic on large trucks. He was a smart man who learned quickly and was a steady, reliable worker. That was a trait which he passed on to his children and even to his grandchildren. Hard work and reliability remain a common thread through the family to this day. He and Neta worked hard to provide for their family and respected and valued those traits in others. Visitation for Robert will be on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 5:00-6:00 PM at Getz Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 9:00 AM at Latter Day Saints Venus Chapel. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
