Robert James Mcconkie

Robert James McConkie passed away Saturday, September 29th after a short illness. Born March 2, 1921 in Vickeryville, Michigan to Leonard Guy and Electa Emma Steere McConkie. The family moved to Ft. Bayard NM in 1927 in hopes that he and his sister would survive TB. Bob attended NM A&M nka NMSU and served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific. After his discharge he returned to Las Cruces to complete his electrical engineering degree and then moved to Albuquerque where he met his wife Phyllis Anne Pritchett. They married in June 1948 and have 2 daughters, Barbara and Mary. He worked at Sandia Labs for 28 years and retired to Las Cruces in 1979. He was a wonderful and thoughtful husband and father. For many years he dreamed of going back to his farming roots. Bob built 2 homes and a cabin for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leonard, his sister Dorothy, and his son-in-law Lou Cabot. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Phyllis, daughters Barbara Saunders and Mary Cabot of Las Cruces, 4 grandsons, James Saunders (Karina) of South Dakota, Christopher Saunders (Jessica) of Albuquerque, Michael Cabot (Renee) of Virginia and Darin Cabot of NY, NY. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and his sister Emily McKinney of El Paso. Family memorial services will be held at a later date. PDF Printable Version
