Dr. Robert Johannes, "Bob", 79 years old of Las Cruces, NM died Friday, March 24, 2006 at The Village at Northrise. He was born January 16, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Erich and Christine Johannes. He was a Las Cruces resident since 1973 and was a founding and active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Bob was a retired Physicist from White Sands Missile Range and a United States Navy Veteran. Bob had received his M.S. in Physics in 1952 and his Ph.D. in Physics from Lehigh University in 1961. He had worked with Calspan Advanced Technology Center, Superior Electronics, Westinghouse Research and Philco-Ford Research. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Phi Alpha, and the American Physical Society. Bob was a wonderful and special man. All who knew and loved him will miss his dry sense of humor and kindness. Bob is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Walker and her husband Keith of Las Cruces, NM; two sons, William Johannes and his wife Justine of Albuquerque, NM, and Douglas Johannes of Ventura, CA. One brother in law, Theodore Mann of New Jersey, and five grandchildren, Janine Walker, Brian Walker, Natalie Johannes, Karl Johannes and Seth Johannes. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Alicia in 2001, a brother Eric Johannes, and a sister, Anna Ruth Mann. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, March 27, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at 4 PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 4675 Bataan Memorial West. Officiating will be Pastor Curt S. Backhaus. PDF Printable Version
