Robert Murrell Short passed away March 20, 2005, surrounded by his family. He was born December 27, 1930, in Salem, New Mexico, to Murrell and Willie Alice Short. He grew up in Hatch, New Mexico, and later moved to Las Cruces, where he became a real estate agent and land developer. In the early 1960s he developed the Telshor Hills subdivision together with Pardner Tellyer. The pair established Telshor Boulevard, laying the groundwork for one of the first prestigious subdivisions in Las Cruces and for future development on the southeast side of Las Cruces. During his youth, he served in both the Army and Navy branches of the Armed Forces before beginning his career as a realtor. He later served as a president of the Realtors Association and initiated the Multiple Listing Service in Las Cruces. He is survived by his wife, Cora, daughters Sandy Short, of Las Cruces, and Carolyn Graham, and her husband, Steve, of Los Angeles, Calif., and their children, Kate and Jackson, and a step-daughter, Nancy Shelley, of Las Cruces, and her daughter, Shannon Stevens, of Deming. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Joreen Cook, of Las Cruces, and a brother, Ernest, of Radium Springs. He is preceded in death by sisters Shirley Short and Mary Miller. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, at Getz Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gorton Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery with full military honors.
