Robert R. Cahall (Bob) 3/30/1924 to 4/4/2016. Bob Cahall was the oldest of 8 children born to Louis L. Cahall and Hannah Irene Snider. Bob grew up on the Snider farm near Georgetown, Ohio. Some of his fondest memories were of these early days, playing with his siblings, caring for the animals and working in the fields. In the depths of the Depression the family lost the farm. Bob was adopted during his teen years by a neighboring farm family, Willie and Pearl Grey. They loved Bob and helped him through some difficult times. In 1943, after working on a chicken ranch with his father, Bob joined the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Sylph as a sonar technician, hunting for German U Boats off the coast of Florida. While stationed in Florida, Bob met Millie Estelle Harris who was also in the Navy as a WAVE, and they were married in 1946. Bob was always grateful for the GI Bill. It enabled him to attend the University of Miami, where he obtained his Engineering degree. He began a 36-year career with the General Electric Company soon after college. Bob and Millie and their two sons, Robin and Randy traveled to many parts of the US while Bob was on the management training program with GE. Bob worked at the Hanford Project in Washington, Largo, Florida and Milwaukee, Wisconsin before settling down as a senior manager at the Schenectady, NY GE Research and Development Center. After retirement Bob and Millie moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida. They were active members in the local Democratic Club and the Rotary Club. Bob often volunteered to help out with local school projects and reading programs and he often found time to get on the golf course. In 2004 they moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Las Cruces NM, to be near family. They adored their grandson David and loved being Grandparents. Bob was a devoted husband, caring for Millie until she passed away in June of 2010. They were married for 64 years. In addition, the care and support of the Good Samaritan community and staff for both Bob and Millie has been invaluable. Bob is survived by his son, Randy Cahall, daughter-in-law Karen Paulson, grandson David Paulson-Cahall, (Las Cruces) son Robin Cahall, daughter-in-law Linda Dunikoski (Atlanta, GA) sisters Mary Connell and Kay Gregg and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are by Getz Funeral Home. There will be a private graveside ceremony at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Good Samaritan Society Las Cruces Village Employee Fund. PDF Printable Version
