Robert Wood, 58, of Shalem Colony Trail, Las Cruces, NM left this world on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 while doing what he loved, hunting with his buddies. Robert was born May 10, 1949 in Deming, NM and was a retired Lock and Safe Technician for White Sands Missile Range. He graduated from Mayfield High School in 1968 and joined the US Air Force weeks later. He honorably served his country as a buck sergeant in the US Air Force and was a proud Vietnam veteran. Robert had a zest for life. He truly lived each day to it's fullest with no regrets. He was a proud man, a dedicated father, a devoted son, a loving and cherished husband and friend. Robert flourished in the outdoors, especially the wilderness. He enjoyed participating in sports, mainly softball. Above all, his passions were hunting and fishing. He had a true camaraderie with several softball teammates and hunting buddies from New Mexico, North Dakota, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana and California. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, New Mexico Vietnam Veterans, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Quails Unlimited, Mesilla Valley Sportsmen and Pheasants Forever. He was the son of Eddie Wood and Rose Flores Wood, son-in-law of Angie Medina and the late Joe Medina Jr. He was lovingly cherished by his wife of 13 years, Mona Medina Wood of the family home. Robert was an adoring and proud father. He is survived by daughters: Kayla Joelle Wood, of the family home, Tiffany Wood Tatum of Sedona, Arizona, SSGT Cheryl Wood Roelofs and her husband Perry of Spangdahlem Germany and a son, CPO Jason Wood and his wife Marlena Miller Wood of Yarmouth, Maine. He leaves behind a brother David Wood and his wife, Francis; two sisters, Patti Wood Sanchez and her husband Manny Jr., all of Las Cruces and Barbie Wood, of Miami, Florida and a sister-in-law Sylvia Medina Huerta, and her husband Hector, also of Las Cruces, NM. Robert is also survived by his grandchildren: Tianna Cecil and Tobias Uriah Wood and Sean Michael Tatum; nephews Anthony Lucero, Kyle Huerta and Jonathan Wood; his nieces: Yvette Sedillo, Jacqui Bostick, Olivia and Nicki Wood, Stacie Quian, Justine Sanchez, Kathlyn Huerta and many more. He also leaves behind his prized hunting dogs, Jake, Dakota and hundreds of treasured friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Luis and Margarita Flores, Antonio and Atilana Wood; sister-in-law, Cecilia Wood; uncles and aunt: Maximino and Mariano Flores and Soilo and Petra Montes; and in-laws: Joe Medina, Jr. and Seneca and Elvira Garcia. Robert touched the hearts of many and will be fondly remembered and sincerely missed by all who loved him and treasured his friendship. More than ever, we will terribly miss his entertaining stories, great sense of humor and contagious laughter. Above all, we will miss, his precious beautiful smile and tender heart. A prayer vigil will be held at 6 pm on Friday, October 5. A memorial service and reception in celebration of Robert's life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 6. All services will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda St. with Fr. Ray Flores officiating.
