Roman "Baby" Aranda Jr., 80, of Mesilla, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Roman was born on March 12, 1933 in Mesilla,NM to Roman Aranda Sr. and Rosa Provencio. Roman "Baby" Aranda Jr., 80, of Mesilla, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Roman was born on March 12, 1933 in Mesilla,NM to Roman Aranda Sr. and Rosa Provencio. He enlisted in the Army and was a Sergeant and Airborne. After his military career he returned to Mesilla and settled into his civilian position at White Sands Missile Range. He married Frances Castillo and celebrated 55 years of marriage. He was a devout Catholic and enjoyed attending his daily mass. They raised 6 children; the late Roman Aranda III (Natalie), Gloria Valencia (Kenny), Gilbert (Yvonne), Anthony, Robert (Christine), Gabriel (Michelle). What made him smile most was being around his 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Roman was a humble man who was proud of his family. He was a self taught musician who enjoyed playing his guitar. Many people will have fond memories of his mustache, savvy fashion style and wit. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Basilica of San Albino at 10:00AM; the Rite of Committal will follow at San Albino Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
