Ronald "Ron" Archer Pincomb, Sr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the age of 80. He was born May 20, 1929 in Flint, Michigan to Ida (Archer) and Ray H. Pincomb. He spent much of his childhood with his Grandmother Pincomb and especially enjoyed the summers in Beulah, Michigan where he played on the shores of Crystal Lake. He met Lucy "Lu" Jowett at Graceland College in Iowa and they were married in 1950. They lived in Michigan, Virginia and Indiana before coming to Las Cruces. Ron earned his bachelors degree from the School of Police Administration, Michigan State University in 1952 and his masters from Indiana University in Public Administration in 1967. He began his career in law enforcement as a patrol officer with the Birmingham, Michigan Police Department. He was also an officer in Detroit and the Police Chief of Union City, Michigan. In 1971 he brought his family to Las Cruces when he was offered and accepted the Head of the Criminal Justice Department at New Mexico State University (NMSU). He retired from NMSU in 1996. He served as Chief of Police for Sunland Park, was a Strategic Intelligence Analyst with the New Mexico Investigative Support Center, High Intensity Drug Task Agencies (HIDTA) New Mexico Southwest Border, and a Deputy Sheriff working at the District Courthouse. Ron was a lifetime Star member of Lambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE), American Criminal Justice Association. Over the years he was appointed to various positions including the National President. His commitment to mentor and support college students was not limited to NMSU, but spanned across the country. He touched the lives of thousands of students during his long teaching career. He was a devoted family man who was willing to help anyone that asked. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grand children. Ron is survived by his son Reid Pincomb and wife Margaret of Madison, Alabama; his daughters, Suzanne Triviz-Harrigan and husband Philip of Silver City, Lauri Wilson and husband Nathan of Mount Juliet, Tennessee and Sandy Ruttle and husband Jeff of Las Cruces; Daughter-in-law, Cecilia Lujan Pincomb; Grandchildren, David Young and wife Christina, Melissa and Lauren Pincomb, Kailene, Lucas, Carson and Bonnie Ruttle and Great-grandchildren, Abigail and Aiden Young; Brother-in-law, Bill Jowett and wife Barbara; Sister-in-law, Mary Jowett; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, his wife, Lu and son, Ron Pincomb Jr., preceded him in death. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home. A Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 10, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
