Ronald Colin Sammons (Ron, Ronnie) was born April 20, 1943 in Murray, Kentucky to Thomas Ross and Anna Rubene Staples Sammons and passed away on July 13, 2017 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Ron lived in Murray with his mother and beloved grandmother, Margaret Lois Sammons, while his father was overseas in the war. Ron lived many places growing up in a military family. He was the oldest of three siblings and took this responsibility seriously protecting and "managing" his brother and sister. Ron graduated from Roswell High School in 1961 and went to the Air Force Academy. He left the Academy his senior year and finished his Bachelor's degree at the University of Illinois and then obtained his Master's degree from Loyola University. Ron worked in the insurance industry in the area of I. T. He was a leader in his field and this was noted by his inclusion in Who' Who in Insurance in 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992 and 1993 and in Standard and Poor's Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives in 1987, 1991, 1993 and 1996. Ron had many interests. He loved hockey, mainly the Blackhawks and attended many of their games. He loved boating and boating poker runs. He loved speed in his cars and his boats. Ron also loved his family and friends. He was always available to talk and counsel anyone who needed it. For many years Ron loved money and felt that success was measured by it. He was very proud of where he was in life in terms of money and prestige. He went to his mother and said "So what do you think of this poor boy from Kentucky now?" His mother told him, "I think you need to get back on the straight and narrow and get right with the Lord." He learned from this and realized there was more to life than possessions. Those left to mourn his passing include his brother Myke (Dale Ann-children Tommy, Michael, Steven, Diana, and Amanda), his sister Michele Key(Steven-child Raychel) wife Tana, his children: Mike(Lisa) and his mother Lynn Slack, Derek (Jill), Michelle (Patrick McKinney) and their mother Pam Sammons, and his stepson Bill Zarychta (Tammy), his grandchildren: Victoria and Cameron Sammons and their mother Juanita, Elle and Riley McKinney, Luke, Will and Claire Sammons and Caleb and Abigail Zarychta, and his great-grandchild, Maci E. Sherwood. He is also survived by his great nieces and nephews: Krysta, Ely, Eva, Lucy, Killian, and great-great niece Nova and many relatives and good friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents Anna (1994) and Thomas (2001) and his nephews Clinton Moore (2001) and Ronald Key (2007). At Ron's request cremation has taken place and no services are planned. His ashes will be scattered at a later date. A special thanks goes out to his caretakers for the last six months at the Adobe.
