Rosa Irma Collier or Chima passed away at 70 years old at her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Tuesday September 14, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Rosa was born on June 6, 1951 in El Paso, Texas. She was the eldest daughter of Santiago and Paula Hernandez. Rosa had a sister, Alma "Boty" Hernandez with whom she enjoyed laughing and spending time. Rosa also had a little brother Santiago "Poncho" M. Hernandez with whom she enjoyed creative endeavors. Rosa was also a devoted mother to Erica Marie Collier and James Buck Collier. She was married to her high school friend Raymond Eric Collier for 44 long years.

Rosa was exceptionally intelligent, graduating second in her class from Ysleta High School in 1968. Rosa was also a member of the National Honor Society in High school and motivated her father to graduate alongside her. As a trailblazer, she enrolled in college as one of the first female engineering students at UTEP in El Paso, Texas going on to earn a bachelor's in education in 1974. Rosa went on to teach for two years before she found her passion for draftsmanship. She broke barriers when working as an in-demand female draftsman and further developed a love for math and accounting. Rosa was fluent in English, Spanish, French, and German. She enjoyed math and worked for over 30 years as a bookkeeper for small businesses and earned her certification for bookkeeping from NMSU. Rosa was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time completing puzzles. Rosa never hesitated helping others and had a huge heart for animals and her family.

Rosa is survived by; her mother Paula Hernandez, her sister Alma Howard spouse Lee Howard, brother Santiago M. Hernandez and wife Vickie McHughes-Hernandez. She is also survived by her husband Raymond Collier and by daughter Erica Collier and significant other Allan Rodriguez, son James Collier and fianc Lisa Muoz.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 1st, 2021 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel.
