Rose Laslow

November 21, 1919 — February 15, 2016

Rose Laslow, age 96, passed away on February 15, 2016, at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Rose was born in Cokeburg Junction, Pennsylvania to Rosa and John Katko. She grew up in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and moved to Las Cruces with her husband Frank Laslow and daughter Cheryl in 1946. When her daughter entered college, Rose began working at Singer Sewing Center and then later at Feder's Jewelers until she retired in 1988. For many years Rose was a member of the Pan American Roundtable and the Red Hat Society Jalapeno Hotties. She loved to sew making most of the garments she wore, to play bridge, to read and to cook. Rose will be remembered for being a wonderful, loving Mom; baking her delicious Hungarian pastry; wearing gold earrings and high heels; taking long walks; and enjoying life to the fullest. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her five siblings: Irene Anderson, Ida Nagy, Helen Kovacs, Julius Katko and Theodore Katko. Rose is survived by her daughter Cheryl Wilson and husband John; and nieces and nephews: Arlene Lisnock, Debra Unglert, Richard Kovacs, Bruce Anderson, Julius Katko Jr., Kenneth Katko, Theodore Katko Jr., Ronald Katko in New Jersey; Judy Larcher in Illinois, and Gladys Logan in Florida. The family would like to thank Dr. John Glick, Dr. Vinay Shet, Dr. David Doctor, and fourth floor nurses at Mountain View Regional Medical Center for the care they provided her. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice, especially Jacquie, Linda, Juanita, Angelica and Vanessa for the comfort, care and love they gave Rose. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Mesilla Park.
