On Thursday, November 10, Rudy Larcher (80 years old) grabbed his golf clubs and walked onto Heaven's beautiful golf course to play his final 18 holes. He was surrounded by his family. Rudy was born in Price, Utah on April 3, 1936. He had two brothers (Tommy and Earl) and loved great food. He learned how to cook from his Nanna and mastered flavorful sauces, pasta, pies and smoked turkey. He loved all kinds of music (except rap), old radio shows from the 1920's and playing cards. He was an artist and was passionate about nature, where he always discovered new things about himself and in the silence, connected with God. He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture and was an Eagle Scout. Rudy leaves his footprints on Las Cruces and the surrounding area. He married Sandy Larcher in September 1960 and moved to Las Cruces in 1961, when the U.S. Army drafted and stationed him to serve at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR). He was one of the artists who drafted the illustrations for Neil Armstrong's historic walk on the moon. Rudy worked for the US government for 35 years, where he retired as WSMR's Landscape Architect. After the flood in the 1980's, he re-designed the WSMR golf course and received national recognition for his work by Washington DC, where he had the honor to shake hands with President Reagan. He was blessed with three children (Roxanne, Randy, and Russell), six grandchildren (Tony, Myles, Paige, Peyton, Pearce and Pryce) and two great-grandchildren (Jonathan and June). We'll be honoring and celebrating Rudy's life on Wednesday, November 16 at 10:00 am. The service will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints (LDS), 3210 Venus Street, Las Cruces. As much as Rudy loves plants and flowers, he'd prefer donations be made in his name to either Mesilla Valley Hospice or La Casa, a domestic violence emergency shelter where he and Sandy volunteered their time for many years.
