Ruthanna Truax Kennon entered eternal life on Monday, December 6, 2010 at home and surrounded by her loved ones. Ruth was born to Lyle Truax and Leva Duvall on April 26, 1922 in Barnesville, Ohio. Ruthanna Truax Kennon entered eternal life on Monday, December 6, 2010 at home and surrounded by her loved ones. Ruth was born to Lyle Truax and Leva Duvall on April 26, 1922 in Barnesville, Ohio. After growing up on a farm in the Depression era, Ruth was graduated salutatorian from Bethesda High School. In 1943, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as an air traffic controller in World War II. After the war, Ruth returned to Ohio and earned a bachelors degree in English from the Ohio State University where she met her future husband, Gene, whom she married in 1949. In 1963, Ruth moved to Las Cruces where she and her husband raised their four children and lived throughout her retirement. Ruth worked as a substitute teacher in the public schools as well as serving as an election poll worker. She also worked as the production manager in a family silk-screening business. She was a long standing member of University Methodist Church. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Workman, and her grandson, Jeffrey Kennon. She is survived by her husband, Gene, her daughter, Jill, and her three sons, Dane, Fred and Brian. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 13, 2010 at University Methodist Church at 2000 Locust Street with a reception at the church immediately following the service.
