Sally R. Sparks was born on 7/1/1927 in Stanton, TX to Thomas Flynn Watson and Elva Watson. She went home with the Lord on 9/3/2014 at the age of 87, from La Posada in Las Cruces, NM, where, in her last days in this world, she received tender, loving care. Sally was raised in Carlsbad and Eunice, NM until 1945 when she went to college at Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX. She next attended NM A&M (NMSU) in 1948-49, then moved to Hobbs, NM, where she raised her family and had a banking career. When her children were gone from home she returned to her education, receiving a BS Psychology in 1979 from College of the Southwest, then, commuting to ENMU for an MA in Psychology in 1984 . Using this MA degree she became a counselor at a mental health clinic (1983-1987) in Hobbs, until moving to Las Cruces to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren and youngest son. In fulfilling a need to know the Las Cruces community, she obtained a real estate associate license and was involved with two local brokers for a period of 3 years. After retiring, Sally cared for her youngest grandson and great grandchildren. Her hobbies over the years focused on gardening, various paint media, gourmet cooking and membership in the social sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. Some of the highlights of her last weeks were time spent with her Home Instead CAREGivers, Maude and Diann. Sally, better known these last several years as Mom, MeeMaw, and Grandma Sally, is survived by her sons David F. Wetzel and Charles R.(Dick) Sparks, her daughter Jan Wimsatt (husband, Ron), Grandsons Ed Jurney, Allan Jurney and Benjamin Sparks and granddaughters-by-marriage Jamie Baker and Melissa Spangler. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
