Samuel C. "Chuck" Henderson Sr., 80, of Las Cruces, died Sunday, June 11, 2006. He was born September 23, 1925 in Springfield, South Dakota to Samuel J. Henderson and Ethel M. Fox. Chuck was a veteran of the US Navy where he served his country honorably during WW II aboard the ships: USS LSM- 176 and USS SITKA. He also retired from WSMR in 1974 as a missile photographer. He had a love for the outdoors especially fishing and was an avid sports fan. Mr. Henderson will be forever missed by his many family and friends who knew and love him. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Roberta Henderson of the family home; sons David Henderson and wife Jane Ann of Edgemont, S.D. and Samuel Henderson Jr. and wife Wynan of Manor, TX; daughters Kathy Christie and husband Mark, and Karen Unruh and husband Wayne all of Las Cruces; brothers David Henderson and wife Janie of Yankton, S.D. and Kenneth Henderson of Lake Forrest, CA; sisters Anelah Willingham and husband Charles of Las Cruces and Celestine (Cessie) Horrell of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Chuck was preceded in death by his son George Henderson; grandson Samuel J. Henderson II; brothers Max and John Ollerman and sisters Mina Tillery and Teresa Ostrich. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services are at 2 PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 also at Getz Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Bowser officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers are Herb Hardin, Mike Barrett, Butch Halvorsen, Chuck Hutchison, Tom Laney and Joe Jaramillo. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Chuck's grandsons Eric, Sammy and Bryan Christie, John and Michael Cogdill, Joshua and Nathan Henderson. PDF Printable Version
