Samuel M. (Sam) Duran, 85, lifelong resident of the Mesilla Valley died Monday, June 25, 2007. He was born August 6, 1921 in Las Cruces to Onesimo and Estefana Morales Duran. Samuel M. (Sam) Duran, 85, lifelong resident of the Mesilla Valley died Monday, June 25, 2007. He was born August 6, 1921 in Las Cruces to Onesimo and Estefana Morales Duran. Sam had retired from WSMR after many years of service. He also worked for the city of Las Cruces as a building inspector for 19 years. He was an avid outdoors person, he loved to travel but his passion was for his family. Mr. Duran will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Lilia Duran of the family home; daughters Mary Ann Padilla and husband Mike and Christina Duran all of Las Cruces; brother Jose Duran of Las Cruces; grandchildren Joseph, J.D., Jiovanni, Jacob and Loretta; great-grandchildren Jeffery, Jered, Breanna, Cameron, Jacob Michael, David James, Samuel, Gabriel, Stephanie, Steven, Andrew, Daniel, Aliyah and Tyka. A brother Necho Duran, a sister Sally Provencio and his granddaughter Lina preceded Sam in death. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7:00 PM. Sam's funeral mass is at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 29, 2007 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church with Fr. Carlos Espinoza officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
