Santiago T. "Jimmy" Lucero, 83, lifelong resident of the Mesilla Valley, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Jimmy was born April 9, 1924 in Las Cruces, NM to Federico and Catarina Telles Lucero. He was a veteran of the US Navy where he served his country honorably during WW II. While in the service of his country he was awarded the Victory Medal WW II, American Area Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon. He also retired from White Sands Missile Range as an Optics Technician. Jimmy loved music but his passion was playing his guitar with the El Quarteto Los Naturales Band. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Delfina Lucero of the family home; four children, Vangie and husband Joe Tellez; Bennie and wife Julie Lucero; Jaime (Chico) and wife Alice Lucero and Rita and husband John Banegas. Three sisters, Juanita Morales; Stella Rivas; and Katie Soto. Also surviving Jimmy are his eight grandchildren, J.J. Tellez; John Lucero; Vickie Perrault; Lisa Hernandez; Lauri Martinez; Danny Lucero; Amber Ortiz; and Isaac Banegas; and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Federico and Catarina he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Lucero, David Lucero, Fred Lucero, and Leonardo Lucero; and three sisters, Kelly Franco, Genevieve Telles and Mercedes Rodriguez. Pallbearers will be Bennie Lucero, Chico Lucero, Danny Lucero, John Lucero, Isaac Banegas, and J.J. Tellez. A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1:00 PM on Friday, Aug. 10, 2007 at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church where his funeral mass will follow at 1:00 PM with Fr. Miguel Macaya officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. PDF Printable Version
