Serafina G. Martinez, 93, of Mesilla New Mexico, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at her home in Mesilla NM. She was born in San Miguel NM on May 13, 1923 to Juan and Marianna Romero. Serafina G. Martinez, 93, of Mesilla New Mexico, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at her home in Mesilla NM. She was born in San Miguel NM on May 13, 1923 to Juan and Marianna Romero. She married Lorenzo Martinez in 1942 and moved to San Diego California where Lorenzo was stationed in the US Navy. After Lorenzo retired from the Navy in 1967, they moved to Las Cruces and were both employed by the Las Cruces Public Schools. In 1990 Serafina and Lorenzo established the Mision Misionera Mission on San Pedro St. in Las Cruces NM. Together they worked tirelessly to operate the mission providing weekly services and bible studies until their time of death. Serafina raised five children and 16 foster children. She is survived by: daughters, Dolores Seideman, Rosela and husband Jose Montoya, Anita and husband Gilbert Morales, son Lorenzo and wife Deborah Martinez, daughter in-law Perla Martinez Davis, 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband Lorenzo A. Martinez, son Raymond Martinez, grandson John McCreary Morales and great-grandson Lance Corporal Christopher S. Adlesperger Funeral Services are scheduled at Getz Funeral Home on Monday May 8, 2017 from 5 -7 pm and graveside services at Hillcrest Memorial Garden Cemetery on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at 10:00 am.
