Sharon Ann Long Martinez, born April 8, 1959 in Los Angeles, California, passed away September 27th 2013 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sharon had been battling cancer for well over seven years and died peacefully surrounded by family and friends at La Posada Hospice Home. Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Albert Martinez, her biological son, Tobias Jacob Martinez, her adopted son, Joshua Anthony Thomas, an adopted daughter, Anita Rachelle Thomas, two step daughters, Angela Denise Garcia and Krystal Martinez, and one stepson, Albert Dwayne Martinez. Her children gave her seven beautiful grandchildren: Alyssa, Jocelyn, Brian, Ciara, AJ, Frankie Jr. and Aidan. In addition Sharon is survived by her father, Harland Long, sisters Rose Potter and Linda Capps, and her loving cousin Marianne Eichler. Sharon graduated from Reserve High School, Class of 1977. She then attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque for two years before going to work for the Federal Government, General Services Administration in Gallup, New Mexico. She worked and lived in Gallup for 13 years before moving to Las Cruces, when offered a position at White Sands Missile Range in 1992. She moved to Las Cruces with her parents who agreed to move with her and her two adopted children. She met her husband Albert a few years later and married on August 4, 1996. Their son Toby was born 10 months later. Sharon loved to travel including camping and being in nature. She liked to bake and enjoyed Dutch oven cooking when outdoors and was very proud of her peach cobbler! Sharon was especially known for her love of life and waking up singing praise songs every morning. She was a member of the Las Cruces First Assembly of God, where she also sang in the choir until her illness. She loved the Lord with all her heart and often would invite people to church whether at the nail salon, the doctor's office or even the Post Office; she wanted to share the good news that there is Hope in Christ. A visitation will be held on Wednesday October 2, 2013 from 9-10 am with her funeral service immediately following at Las Cruces First Assembly of God. Burial will then follow t San Albino Cemetery. Family and friends serving as pallbearers will include: Ron Martinez, Hoss Martinez, Danny Martinez, Victor Lopez, Alberto Gutierrez, and Oscar Lucero. PDF Printable Version
