Shelton Ira Pricer of Mesilla Park, New Mexico; beloved husband, father, and grandfather, celebrated his Heaven Day on Wednesday, July 6, 2017. A memorial service will be held at Getz Funeral Home at 2:30 on Tuesday, July 11 and interment will be in Masonic Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice in his name. Shelton was born on Saturday, November 22, 1941 in Mesilla, New Mexico. His birthdate is particularly special to his Granddaughter, Olivia Shelden, as she shares the same birthday with her Gramps, a term he coined as "birthday twins". Shelton attended Mesilla Park Elementary, Court Junior High, and was the first sophomore class to open the "new" Las Cruces High School in 1956. He graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1959 and then proceeded to New Mexico State University where he studied agriculture. Shelton worked at his uncle's grocery store, Parten's Foodarama, at N.M.S.U.'s Physical Science Laboratories, and finally for Raytheon at White Sands Missile Range for 35 years. He held the nation's highest security clearance as he often transported the codes for Hawk and Patriot missile launches among a variety of other security duties. Shelton's passion was the outdoors; hunting and fishing. There was hardly a weekend or vacation that you wouldn't find him with a pole in the water or hunting deer, elk, turkey, bear, antelope, or javelina in the Gila Mountains. He was also able to go on special hunts for moose in Alaska and especially loved to fish for salmon there. Shelton received the "Dona Ana County Associated Sportsman Conservationist of the Year" award in 1985 and the "Roger M. Latham Sportsman's Service Award" from the National Wild Turkey Federation, in 1986. Shelton married the love of his life, Nancy (Benvie) Pricer, June 24, 1965. Over their 52 years of marriage they raised their two children William Ira Pricer and Cynthia (Pricer) Shelden. He often told those he loved that he could not have wished for a better son-in-law than Jason Trent Shelden. His grandkids, Spencer Ira Shelden (11), Olivia Mary Shelden (8) and Sloane Taylor Shelden (5) were his absolute joy and fulfillment of his life. Shelton is preceded in death by: Manuel Russel Pricer (Father), Ruby Dahlia Cordill Pricer (Mother), Kenneth Ray Pricer (Brother), and William Ira Pricer (Son).
