Shirley “Kathy” (Gilcher) Cully, 86, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family after her 5-month battle with cancer.

Kathy was born to parents Vernon and Bernadine Gilcher on October 18th, 1936, in Cambridge, Ohio. Kathy graduated from Fairview High School in Dayton, OH, in 1956. It was here that Kathy married her beloved husband John Cully of 70 years, and they welcomed their first-born daughter, Deborah (Cully) Algier soon after.

John and Kathy then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1958 and later settled in Las Cruces in 1964. During their time in Las Cruces, Kathy and John welcomed their son, John P. Cully and also started their business, New Mexico Mechanical, where Kathy worked as a bookkeeper.

Kathy was well known as a devoted mother to her two children, and a loving wife and homemaker. Kathy most enjoyed bowling, traveling across the country and Canada in her and John’s motorhome, golf, playing Bridge with her closest friends, and finding and cooking delicious new recipes for her family and friends.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 70 years, John Cully, her two children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

There will be no funeral services and her family ask in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice.

“And ever had it been known that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation.”
